Florene Wilkinson Herndon, daughter of Alvie Willis Wilkinson and Margaret Ola Floyd, married to Charles Marion Herndon and buried in Mount Hope Cemetery, Anson, Jones County, Texas.


FLORENE HERNDON, 98, of Abilene passed away peacefully Saturday, April 16, 2016, at her home.  Services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 21, 2016, at the First United Methodist Church in Anson. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery, directed by Adams-Graham Funeral Home.

Born January 19, 1918, near Abilene, Florene was the daughter of A. W. and Ola Floyd Wilkinson. During World War II, she worked with the military hospital as a medical stenographer. She retired from the USDA office in Anson and then spent her later years living on the lake enjoying her view.  Florene found happiness by being outside, she loved working in her yard, growing flowers and sharing the love with friends and family. Florene also loved helping in the community, helping others in their time of need and never met a stranger. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Anson.

Florene was preceded in death by her husband (Charles M. Herndon), a daughter (Patricia Encke), a sister (Ola Faye McGilvray) and a brother (J.T. Wilkinson).

Survivors include one son, Michael Herndon (and wife, Robbie) of Anson; a son-in-law, Jim Encke of Abilene; a brother, Col. Bobby Wilkinson (and wife, Janet) of Bryan; a sister, Jacque Hancock (and husband, Tyre) of Clyde; grandchildren, Bobby Herndon (and wife, Jamie) of Lubbock and Lindsey Lubojasky (and husband, Cody) of Roanoke; and great-grandchildren, Emily Herndon, Colby Herndon, Andy Herndon, Lyv Lubojasky and Cy Lubojasky.

Family visitation will be 6:00 to 7:30 Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at Adams-Graham Funeral Home in Anson.
